Paul Joins Team Nifty!

Paul Williamson

I’m happy to be one of the newest team members at Nifty Communications! I will be one of the Account Managers helping our awesome clients increase their reach, recognition and return through creating innovative and engaging content.

As a bit of background of my experience, I studied Business Management & Human Resources at Nottingham Trent University and received a 2.1 BA Hons degree. One of my reasons for choosing this university was because of the businesses associated with them offering placements. The UK’s leading Automotive Retailer, Pendragon really interested me and was the main company that I wanted to apply to.

During my time I was lucky enough to secure a placement with them as their Marketing Communications and Events Undergraduate. This was great fun looking after some of their websites, and helping to create great content for leading car brands. This developed my ideas for marketing best practices, working with a range of corporate identities with different on-brand messages and working with industry experts.

This role also included planning and hosting unique events at different venues around the UK including venues such as the Shelsley Walsh Hill Climb. One of the furthest reaching events was planning and hosting a corporate group at a Chateau in France, for the Le Mans 24-hour race which was a great experience to be involved with.

Following university, I was invited back on the Graduate scheme with Pendragon in the Business Development & Group Operations role. This helped give me some great experience at a board level in decision making, strategy and executing plans to build on the business and activities. It was great to see how all the individual dealerships and group activities impacted the wider business. Looking at the business activities, while considering the financial impact first, gave me a good grounding for decision making.

After this I set up Hillside Brewery and Events, running that for nine years. At Hillside I created a brewery with delicious beers, an on-site shop, designed an events barn and bar, developed some on-site activities such as archery tag (imagine combining archery and dodge ball) and a dedicated camping area. Over this time, we won over 50 awards, hosted some large corporate events and conferences with names such as Superdry and Natwest, and developed a great brand. A year after the first COVID lockdown came into place, I felt the time was right to move on. I had previously met Christian and Rachel and got on really well with them both. I saw on LinkedIn that they had posted a job which sounded great – and the rest is history!

Nifty has a great team of industry experts who are dedicated to achieving excellence. It’s great to be part of an innovative, results-based team and I’m looking forward to making a difference.

When I’m not at work you will most likely find me outdoors somewhere. I try to spend most of my free time wakeboarding (weather permitting), trying to get better and not to faceplant – trust me, it hurts! If the weather is too cold, I will most likely be at Redpoint in Worcester rock climbing, which is always great fun and challenges me. What I lack in skill, I make up for in reach.

Anything to do with food or drink and I’m in, there’s nothing better than having a good meal and a few drinks with friends. I love all types of food, but Thai has to be my all-time favourite! There is such a wide range of flavours and styles of meals you can do and they all pair perfectly with a beer! While that’s my favourite, you can’t beat a good old British BBQ!

If you want to have a chat about wakeboarding, climbing, food/drink or marketing, please do get in contact as I’d love to speak to you.
