There was a huge announcement in the digital sport industry last week as worldwide digital media publishing company, Valnet, added UK-based Snack Media to its ever-growing portfolio of brands.
Snack Media was founded in 2007 and is one of the UK’s largest digital sport networks, operating a portfolio of over 400 websites and 30m social followers. It’s responsible for some of the most recognisable digital sports channels in the UK, such as Give Me Sport, FootballFanCast and Football League World. In its own words, Snack Media ‘builds huge communities of passionate fans by fuelling and facilitating their insatiable appetite for authentic content and conversation’.
Snack Media’s new parent company, Valnet, is an expert in its field. Creating and distributing content to millions of users, and with around 4 billion sessions per year, it’s the leading digital media investment company, owning and operating a diversified portfolio of premier digital publishing assets.
Here at Nifty, we’ve been watching the evolution of Snack Media with a keen eye for some years and even enjoyed a few phone calls with them for a campaign only a couple of months ago. Like ourselves, they specialise in giving fans the one thing they crave more than anything else – access. Gone are the days when a fan is simply happy tuning into Sky Sports or the sports section of their regional news site in the hope they get a short update on the goings on at their cub. Fans want more, and so they should, after all, they’re stakeholders.
We think this acquisition from a huge Canadian conglomerate like Valnet signals a big success for digital sports access here in the UK and represents the ongoing changes in how fans consume sports from a digital perspective. We’re sure Valnet has some huge plans for Snack Media and we’re excited to see these unfold over the coming years.
If you’re interested in finding out how you can give fans access and monetise at the same time, please get in touch, we’ll be happy to chat.
